After the interval a game of “Body Bingo” was held, with half the kitty from the sale of tickets as a prize and half being donated to the new charity fund. The last evening meeting of the 2004 / 2005 season ended with a “true or false” quiz. The new society year started on the 25th June with a garden party. Money raised was in aid of Mair’s chosen charity. Whilst the weather forecast could have been better the afternoon remained dry and was thoroughly enjoyed by the 40 who attended and £313 was raised. The next meeting will be on September 22nd after the summer break.

The society met on Thursday 23rd June for its Annual General Meeting. The minutes of the last AGM were read and approved. President Carys Williams reported that she had had a most enjoyable year and followed with a résumé of the years’ activities and thanked all those that had made her year in office so enjoyable. She was also grateful for the hard work that had been put in to raise money for her charity, the Essex Air Ambulance, which amounted to £3060.00. She thanked all those members who were so willing to help, and in particular, husband Arthur who had severely curtailed his sailing this year. She then handed over to Mair Thomas for the secretary’s report. Mair said that the year had literally flown by, and thanked Carys for a very enjoyable year when we had seen the membership increase to 121, and the average monthly meeting attendance rise to well over 50.
She thanked the committee for all their hard work, and to the spouses of committee members who also went “above the call of duty” to help with events and projects, in particular Arthur for his support of Carys and the society through her year in office. The treasurer, Eddie Alcock was pleased to show that the society was in fine shape financially with a small gain registered during the accounting year. However due to the increase in the cost of the Chapter House next year, he proposed a subscription next year of £8, an increase of £1. Terry Buxton was thanked for auditing the accounts once more and Eddie recommended we retain him for the coming year.
