Arthur Williams was the Quiz Master at the Chelmsford and District Welsh Society's Monthly Meeting on 27th March. He, and the 6 teams of enthusiastic members taking part were welcomed by the President, Cynthia Styles, and following the traditional enthusiastic singing of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, the Welsh National Anthem, the competition commenced. Arthur had prepared ten interesting topics, and all but four of the questions were answered by at least one of the teams. Several knew, for instance that the last Pope, John Paul, was a good soccer player in his youth and that a young Cliff Richards was not allowed to enter Singapore because his hair was too long! To accompany Arthur's Quiz, Derrick Thomas had prepared a number of Table Top Questions to be attempted during the evening. The members of the formidable team, which won by a margin of eight points, were Maureen Davies, Phillip Evans, Jean and Ron Jones, John Henri, Cyril Howells, John Styles and Rowland Webb. Arthur was thanked for providing a thoroughly enjoyable evening. It has become necessary to change the topic of the Monthly Meeting on 24th April, which will now be "Noswaith o Ddirgelwch," ( An Evening of Mystery.) On 11th April Cynthia and John Styles will host a Flower Demonstration in aid of the Society's Charity, the Childhood Eye Cancer. Jim Armishaw |
